10 FULLY EQUIPPED DISPENSARY BUSES WITH INTERNET
TO MOVE AGAINST EXCISION IN AFRICA.
SoS AFRICAIN IN DANGER
Our NGO is an offshoot of a therapy group for excision patients and asylum seekers. Its goal is to contribute to the effective implementation of the Human Rights established by the UN’s Universal Declaration of Human Rights by working toward the abolition of excision and forced marriages in Western Africa.
THE AFRICAINS IN DANGER sont les petites filles restées au village risquant à tout instant d’être excisées et mariées enfant.
Under international law, excision qualifies as inhumane and degrading treatment amounting to torture. Excision often happens before girls reach the age of 14. Excision is generally performed in a traditional context, and may be considered by the communities which perform it as an initiative rite, a compulsory passage from one social status to another. Yet, the consequences of such practices are tragic for women’s health and are widely unknown by the communities (severe bleeding, urinary issues, development of sexually transmissible diseases, infections, infertility, complications when giving birth, increase of the risk of death of newborns, etc.)
Figures on excision in Africa
➣ 200 million women are excised, in majority in 25 African countries.
➣ 3 millions de filles de moins de 15 ans risquent l'excision chaque année.
➣ 1 victim every 4 minutes according to Unicef.
NOTRE PROJET SOCIAL
We want to send combination dispensary and internet hub buses to Africa to help scale back excision. These will be used American school buses, available for sale in bulk in the USA, which will be transformed and shipped by boat as far as Senegal.
Buses must be bought and made over in order to be able to take the working teams into the regions and villages where excision is the most prevalent.
Young media professionals will use the satellite connection on the bus for outreach and to connect the activist communities with the villages visited and the digital world village of the social networks.
Professional health workers, will be available in the dispensary part of the bus to listen to mothers and little girls and to treat them.
The through the mobile health clinics,
➣ Providing medical care to excised women and girls
➣ Raising awareness of the civil populations on the consequences of excision
➣ Reducing the practice of excision at the national and pan-African level
